zenki, a red oni, fell deeply in love with kurenai, a human woman. he had a brother, goki, who was a blue oni. despite having different mothers, both were the sons of kishin baki - the king of oni, god of the underworld. one fateful day a new leader was decided through a match to the death, since zenki was the oldest son he was the first to try and take his father's life. He was successful and became the new lord of the oni. This outcome infuriated Goki, who constantly stood in his brother's shadow and secretly plotted to seize control. then one day kurenai bore the child of zenki and even though both tried to hide it, goki found out. the latter used this to cause an uproar in the underworld, and to make the oni switch sides. on that day, zenki was betrayed by his own brother who had tricked him to accept a fight to the death. goki knew that he was no match for the other, thus he came up with a malicious plan. he let his minions capture the female human and used her as shield. in the end, zenki refused to fight and gave up his position, hoping it would satisfy his brother. however, instead of simply letting go of the matter and allowing zenki to leave with his beloved, goki tricked him one last time and beheaded him from behind. kurenai could only watch in horror, frozen by fear, but she wasn't given the chance to even shed a tear before goki took her life as well and devoured her as his reward. ever since then goki has been ruling over the underworld and leads an army of oni, occasionally harassing the humans on the surface. around the same time, akai kenzo, an old monk, happened to pass by a yuzu (citrus) tree where he found a crying baby. a boy. he took him in without hesitation, returning to a temple in the mountains where he was the chief abbot, and bestowed the name yuzo to him.first kenzo didn't notice, but the older yuzo grew the more evident it became that he was not human. he ate lots and lots, showed inhuman strength despite being just a child and last but not least horns would grow from his head whenever he got too emotional. at first, the monk couldn't believe his eyes. a part of him didn't want to believe it to be true, but denying it would put not only himself but yuzo at risk. he tried his best to explain the concept of oni to the boy but he didn't seem to care much as long as he could stay with the old man. the monk decided to teach yuzo in martial arts and meditation to help him regulate his temper. as the oni boy grew so did his curiosity, he wanted to know what was beyond the mountains, who his parents were and why they left him, if there were more oni out there. while the monk couldn't answer all his questions, he did allow yuzo to accompany him whenever he had to go to nearby villages. at that time rumors were making rounds, people whispered about children disappearing and livestock getting attacked by an unknown beast. fate was already determined it seemed, because yuzo and the monk ended up staying over night in the village. the oni boy eventually found himself walking through the dark streets when he suddenly heard a child's scream. something had managed to steal a little girl away from her home in the middle of the night, and now yuzo was chasing that something. before he knew it, he stood face to face with the culprit. an oni. the creature burst out into laughter once it realized that yuzo was half-human, it then decided to devour him as well. however, thanks to the monk's training yuzo managed to defeat it and returned the girl to her family. this encounter only fueled his curiosity more and thus yuzo decided to hunt down more monsters. he didn't care much about helping humans, his main goal was it to gather information about his heritage. he knew that somewhere out there someone held all the answers, he just had to look in the right places.the monk realized that he couldn't stop his adoptive-son and accepted his decision. before yuzo went on his journey, the monk made him promise to use his strength to help the one's in need, like he once did when he took yuzo in. shortly after, the old man passed away, succumbing to an illness which he had kept secret from the oni. a few years later, after crossing paths with an onmyoji, yuzo discovered a way that allowed him to enter the realm of the underworld. excited he returned home quickly, but only found himself in front of an vacant temple. next to it, a gravestone holding the name of his adoptive father. it was then that he lost control over his emotions and allowed his oni side to take over. he almost destroyed the whole temple if it hadn't been for a yuzu tree catching his attention. the monk had planted it after taking him in, and took great care of it ever since. at once the anger shifted into deep sadness and yuzo cried. without the old man around, he felt out of place, like he didn't belong with humans. he was just too different. without a place to call his home, the oni made up his mind to return to the underworld. there, he was soon recognized by the oni lord. despite being only half-oni he was undeniably the son of zenki, the red oni. yuzo however didn't know anything, at least not yet. he was clueless when he was suddenly attacked by oni. at first he thought it was because of his human side, but he quickly changed his mind when he stood in front of the oni lord goki, his uncle. the latter gave him a run down of his past, admitting to all the evil deeds. near the end of his speech, he thanked yuzo. meeting him gave him the chance to kill one more person his brother held dear. the young halfblood attempted to flee but goki's minions overpowered him and managed to imprison him.yuzo became his uncle's prisoner, his slave even, his toy when he felt bored. the oni lord planned to end his nephew's life but he would take it slowly. he wanted to really make him suffer, to break him piece by piece. the blue oni would take his dignity first, then his resolve and lastly his will to live. and once yuzo was stripped clean of it all, he wouldn't even have to kill him with his own hands anymore, yuzo would take his own life ... but only if he begged on his knees first. at least, that's what goki invisioned. the reality of things turned out quite differently though. while he was indeed weakened and still grieving the loss of his foster parent, yuzo's willpower was too strong. and whenever he felt like giving up, he saw kenzo's face. the monk's words would echoe in his mind, giving him strength and the patience to break out of hell - literally. yuzo trained in secret any chance he got, planning to wait for an opening to escape. however, things came a little differently than he had originally planned. one day, goki's monions discovered the two praying beads which yuzo kept hidden for years. one belonged to kenzo, the other belonged to him. out of fear they would be taken from him or worse be destroyed after his imprisonment, he decided to hide them somewhere safe. the group of oni played with them but quickly realized that touching the beads burnt their hands. angry, they wanted to break the bracelets but before they could follow through, yuzo snapped. the control over his body slipped away and his mind turned blank. he felt great power taking over and embraced it without hesitation. if it was true what goki told him, then he was indeed the descendant of the oni god enma, his great grandfather. if he embraced his oni side then those chains nor those minions could keep him here any longer. eventually, goki was informed that yuzo managed to escape the underground after ripping through hordes of his lackeys. instead of feeling enraged, the lord seemed rather pleased with this outcome. he felt even more excited to take yuzo's life should they ever cross paths again, which they would. after all, his nephew promised to take his head to avenge his parents and to reclaim the throne of the underworld.back on the surface, yuzo collapsed, his halfblood body drained of its energy. when he came back to his senses the memories of what happened slowly returned to him. surely his uncle wouldn't just let him run free after keeping him chained up for so many years. the oni boy felt paranoid that his uncle's minions were still after him, or that they would hunt him down until they found him again. for the first time ever he felt fear. not for his life though. he was fearing for other people's lives. the humans of this world stood no chance against an army of oni. if anything were to happen because of him he would never forgive himself. yuzo felt stuck, he didn't know what to do. if there was no place for him in the underworld and none on the surface, what was he supposed to do? just give up and die? no, that's not how the old monk raised him. if there was truly no place for him to belong, he would just have to make one, starting by freeing the underworld from goki's grasp. but before he could do that, he had to become stronger. he decided to remain at the surface and eventually became a demon hunter, using every encounter to train his abilities. more years passed and the world around him shifted from traditional to modern. though, while times changed, some things stayed the same, like supernatural beings roaming in the shadows terrorizing humankind, and of course yuzo's goal to defeat his uncle. now older and more experienced, the oni decided to join the white lotus and its branch of monster hunters, to reach his goal faster.

back in medieval japan he fell in love with a human woman named ren and planned to marry her. however she was murdered together with her whole village, which koga had promised to protect, by another daiyokai, ryuga, who viewed koga as rival & enemy. after the incident koga pretty much gave up on his own life & became a drifter, no longer caring about humans or his own kind, closing himself off completely. he eventually became a criminal and found himself part of the yakuza. at this time he was his own prisoner for centuries until one day he finally realized that he had become the same kind of monster that took everything from him. he no longer wanted to participate in cruelty nor did he want to watch the suffering of others any longer, thus he turned the yakuza upside down & became the leader of 'byakuren' (white lotus). the white lotus focuses on the supernatural, both the good and evil side, helping humans and the inhuman. the organization exists hidden across the globe and the members range from ordinary people to monsters of all types. koga's personal goal is it to connect both humans and other worldy beings with one another and achieve harmony and understanding.
